Mauricio Pochettino leaves Paris Saint-Germain, Christophe Galtier named as replacement

Pochettino replaced by Galtier after latest PSG Champsions League failure

Pochettino sacked despite winning Ligue 1 title in 2022

Paris Saint-Germain have sacked manager Mauricio Pochettino just months after he guided the team to the Ligue 1 title. Christophe Galtier, who left Nice at the end of last season, has been appointed as Pochettino's replacement on a two-year deal.

Pochettino's departure comes after a disappointing season for PSG, who were knocked out of the Champions League at the quarter-final stage by Real Madrid. The French giants also lost the Coupe de France final to Nice, and finished the league season 15 points behind champions Monaco.

Galtier, 55, is a former France international who has previously managed Saint-Etienne, Lille and Nice. He led Lille to the Ligue 1 title in 2021, and Nice to the Coupe de France final last season.

Pochettino's sacking is a sign of the high expectations at PSG, who are owned by the Qatar Sports Investments group.

Conclusion

The club has invested heavily in recent years, and will expect Galtier to deliver success in both domestic and European competitions.
