NOAA Issues Short-Term Forecast

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has released a short-term forecast of the location and intensity of the aurora borealis. The forecast is based on data from the OVATION auroral model and predicts the best time to view the aurora over North America.

Tips for Viewing the Northern Lights

To increase your chances of seeing the aurora, follow these tips:

  • Look towards the northern horizon.
  • Be patient. It may take some time for the aurora to appear.

Forecast for Tonight and Tomorrow Night

According to the forecast, the aurora is expected to be visible in the following areas:

  • Alaska
  • Northern Canada
  • The northern United States (including Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, North Dakota, and Washington)

The best time to view the aurora tonight is between 5:09 PM EDT and 509 PM EDT. The best time to view the aurora tomorrow night is between 11:19 AM EDT and 11:19 AM EDT.
